Features

The Voorwood Series A525 Shaper Sander will profile and sand a single edge of a board in one pass. The A525 is capable of producing up to 11,500 lineal feet (3500M) of finished product per height-hour shift. Production rates may vary with part size and operational conditions. Stock is transported through the machine by a bottom feed chain with special pads that grip the stock securely while it passes the workstations. With digital readouts and MicroPoint tilt at the workstations and digital readout on the eversquare infeed guide., this machine is designed for easy set up and repeatable tool change between profiles. With the use of a swing-away square guide, precut arch panels can be shaped and sanded. The shapers and sanders can be either fixed or follow the contour of each piece of stock.

Main Frame

The welded box frame construction provides a rigid structure insuring accurate and repeatable tool positioning. Base weldment is pre-drilled for permanent machine installation

Transporter assembly

The transporter assembly incorporates a large infeed support area and is equipped with an ever square infeed guide with digital readout; adjustable feed drive motor and bottom feed chain. Substrate is positioned with infeed plate against the edge guide; when drive motor is activated, bottom feed chain transports the substrate past the shaping and sanding stations. To profile an arched stock the square guide is used. The square guide is a swing away guide to assist in proper infeed placement of arched substrate that is placed against the edge guide and square guide to position stock for transport. Bottom feed chain is topped with non marking polymer pads. A PLC controlled oil pump automatically lubricates transporter chain race assembly.

 

Belt Hold down Assembly

The steel plate holddown beam is equipped with a safety switch at the infeed area, anti-intrusion hood and non-markin rubber belt. The belt holds the substrate against the bottom pads while the work piece is transported past the shaping and sanding stations. Infeed limit switch deactivates drive motor if substrate is mis-fed. Digital readout on vertical adjustment hand wheel adjusts for substrate thickness.

Outboard Support

Adjustable-width support assembly supports the weight of the substrate as it is transported past the shaping and sanding stations.

Shaping Stations

This system is comprised of two shaping units that make the same cut to prevent end grain tear out. The first shaper is reversible. The second shaper is equipped with double collets. The first unit rotates with the feed direction, and as the substrate passes, the station jumps in to make a short but full depth cut on the trailing edge on straight cuts only. For contour or non jump cuts, the first spindle can be set to rotate against the direction of feed. The second unit rotates against the direction of feed and is aligned to finish the cut started by the first unit. All spindles have angular, horizontal and vertical adjustments with accurate and repeatable digital readouts as well as spindle locks to facilitate fast and repeatable tool changes. Each station is equipped with dust hood/safety guard. The stations can be locked for straight shaping or allowed to follow a contour.

The first shaper has a drive key that aligns with a shaper head keyway.

Sanding Stations

Dual sanding station is equipped with precision-balanced drive motors and spindles. The infeed spindle rotates with the direction of feed and the outfeed spindle rotates against the direction of feed. Both spindles are equipped with double collets and have angular, horizontal, and vertical adjustments with accurate and repeatable digital readouts. Each station is equipped with dust hood/safety guard. The stations can be locked for straight sanding or allowed to follow a contour.

Control and component panels

Lighted touch screen controls are located at the infeed end for operator convenience. Machine activate switch is located at the back of the machine on the component panel. The function and logic of the machine is controlled by a “PLC” control and component panels conform to ANSI/NFPA 70 and NFPA 79 electrical standards and can meet European Community standards. Machine is pre-wired for installation in customer’s factory

Dust Collection

Each shaping and sanding station is equipped with a dust hood and hose. Manifold is provided for connection to customer’s dust collection system

The A525 is a production oriented machine designed for reliability and operator convenience. It is furnished ready for hookup at customer’s facility.
